Our Charity Fair was well attended and we are most grateful to Trinity Methodist Church for allowing us to “invade” the Chapel itself to accommodate all the stalls. Many people commented on how much better it was to serve refreshments in the Chapel, making the afternoon more relaxed and enjoyable.
Shortly, we will celebrate the Club’s 24th Birthday. However, it is increasingly difficult to maintain the level of services we provide due to a lack of volunteers to assist on shopping trips and outings. Our current volunteers have been with us for years but unfortunately their age and state of health are reducing the tasks they can undertake for us. We can offer training and expenses are paid. Volunteers are very much part of the Club and can join in all our social activities. Contact us on 733441.
We have had an increase in membership in the last year as local authority day centres closed leaving people isolated and lonely. Many have been referred to us by the NHS and are enjoying our activities and companionship. Despite rumours which have been circulating, our New Age Kurling and Boccia sessions are still held every Wednesday at Winterton Community Pavilion from 2pm to 4pm. Come and join us, you might just get hooked on these competitive games!
Another area of concern for us is still the availability of accessible transport. After seeing the report in the last OAAIW that Winterton Town Council and Winterton 2022 were to enter into a partnership for getting a community minibus, many residents are under the impression that a bus is now available and they keep asking us if we are pleased with it! We can definitely confirm that “No, there is no bus, yet”. We are as eager as them to see a vehicle available. Along with other groups, we can’t afford any more delays as the lack of suitable transport is impacting enormously on community activities, which is a great shame especially for groups newly starting and trying to get established.
Finally, we do send our sincere condolences to Mary Jackson’s family. Mary passed away recently and was a former member of our Club, spending over 10 years there and taking a leading role in Club activities. Whenever Mary was involved FUN was on the menu and to us she will always remain “The Oldest Swinger in Town”. RIP Mary.
